Before, During and After a Rope Course Program

Rope courses are aimed to improve relationships between friends and family. Going on an adventure park trip anytime soon? Some of these general tips can help the overall experiences of the rope course facilitator and the participants to make the activity enjoyable and create a productive environment.

Before:

Ask all the questions before the ropes course event starts. The program usually starts by the facilitator discussing the series of exercises for the team. If you think some of the instructions unclear, don't be afraid to ask. This way, you know what to expect and plan out your strategy in completing the rope course.

Interact with your team members. For starters, it would be very helpful to ask if some of your teammates have disabilities or health hazards for safety reasons. This can also reduce unwanted surprises while you're doing the ropes course activity. Challenge courses are also built to develop teamwork and camaraderie, so it’s important to avoid conflicts and develop a healthy relationship among the team.

During:

Know when to slow down or stop. The last thing you want to happen during a rope course activity is to have an injury so the best thing to do when something goes awry is to slow down or completely stop the process, whichever is more necessary.

There is no room for practical jokes during the entire duration of the rope course activity. This can cause a lot of accidents and may do more harm than good. The ropes course program is designed to build core strength as well as learn a few things along the way, and this can be completed without the need of inappropriate jokes.

After:

Reflect on the ropes course experience. Identify the things you have learned about yourself or the team. It's important to identify your strengths and weaknesses because the activity aims to know your limits. You'll be surprised to know more about your friends or family. In fact, some teams that have a lot of fun during the initial ropes course activity often schedule follow-up sessions.

Ask and receive feedback from your team members. Be open to constructive criticisms because these will hone your skills as you go through life. The ropes course activity is merely a training ground and the best thing they can do is to prepare the team members for the real obstacles in life.
